Surprisingly, not too bad. Although the plot plays it fast and loose with the timeline of the real Amityville murders (put to film--sorta--in Amityville II: The Possession), this movie eschews the haunted house sensibilities of the other Amityville films in favor of an approach much closer to modern horror. The result isn't that scary, but the characters are pretty good, so you can at least feel bad for the ones that get nailed. And I loved the bit of modern art created by Richard Roundtree's character.

As this is the seventh film in the series, I was expecting it to be fairly awful. The only other one I had seen was Amityville 3D, and that wasn't that good. As a result, I wasn't prepared for just how good A New Generation was! I found the film creepy in some places, funny in others and generally very entertaining to watch. I prefer it to 3D, which I rewatched recently and found not even as good as I remembered. The characters in A New Generation are interesting, and the I liked the way it linked to the original films. A very good film and well worth your time to watch. Recommended.
