This little-known UK film is actually very good, even for those not familiar with the TV show from which it spun off. Auton presents horror in the style of Alien: a group of soldiers are trapped together and stalked by an evil force. Of course, there is more detail than that, and the Plastic Dummies that are animated by the intelligence have a incredibly creepy appearance.
The special effects aren't great, but considering the budget they got some good stuff done! The action pieces with the Autons attacking the UNIT team are particularly good.
The acting is first class, with everyone getting their teeth into the roles they play. Michael Wades Lockwood has a menacing presence, yet there are no doubts that he is on the good guys' side. The chief villain, Winslet, is also acted well and really portrays a disturbing focus for the Nesten's evil.
In the end this is an excellent short film and truly deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.
