Wow! This film may be short and at times but confusing, but considering the budget and the time spent, the end result is truly superb.
The storyline builds on the events of the first film and has a bigger role for Lockwood. He is seen as a key player in this and we get a brighter look at his character. Doctor Arnold wasn't availble much so her role is just a cameo, yet it sets up for another one. Instead, we get the psychic Natasha Alexander, who really is rather a good actor and helps move the story foward.
Unlike the entirely studio-bound original, this was completely shot on-location. The woodland battle between the Autons and the UNIT soldiers is very well done and the sequence of the possessed town people is truly creepy. The musical score is great and everything leads towards the grand finale.
And what a finale! All I can say is "wow"--the special effects and CGI of the creature go far beyond the budget. They look real and had me gaping.
The ending very much leaves the series open for the promised last part of the trilogy, but the film still works on its own. An excellent piece which is far superior to the original.
