While James Newton Howard's work for The Sixth Sense is an example of good music overcoming poor packaging. By "poor packaging," I mean what was probably Varese Sarabande's decision to include only a half-hour of the score on the CD. So there's not enough of the music, but what's here is great. The disc opens with "Run to the Church," a sad, very autumnal theme that isn't so much eerie as it is mysterious and curious. The rest of Howard's subtle pieces slip seamlessly between moods, leading to a final track that is utterly frightening but ends in an uplifting finale.
