Batman & Robin is so aggresively bad that it is, in a strange way, amazing to watch. The dialogue makes Batman Forever seem like Shakespeare, and the fake-looking sets are too expressionistic to be taken seriously and yet too realistic to be effective expressionistically. The action sequences are downright ridiculous, as is Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance as Mr. Freeze. Alicia Silverstone is so spunky (there's a word I never thought I'd use in a review of any film made after 1988) I wanted to throw her out a window. Chris O'Donnel does his best with the lousy material, as does George Clooney, whose approachable spin on Batman makes him better than Kilmer but still not close to Keaton. Blech. George Clooney took is now the third actor to perform the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the current series.
Follows Batman, Batman Returns, and Batman Forever.
