Carrie is one of my least favorite Stephen King books--it's too short and lacks the depth of character that defines so much of his work. However, it is a great blueprint for a film. Brian DePalma directs this with a sure hand, moving quickly from one startling image to another (including the most frightening crucifix I've ever seen). Sissy Spacek (in a tender peformance) and Piper Laurie are both good as Carrie and her mother, but DePalma's directing is the real star here. (Sep 11, 1999) philjohn.com - approaching the unexplained
