Oh, boy. Talk about a grind. Here we go again, with the group of generic "teenagers" in a generic partying situation who are killed in a bunch of generic ways. Now, I'm always complaining that slasher films never slow down a bit to get us to know the characters. This one actually does try to get us to know the characters, but they all suck, so it's to no avail. I mean, one of the actors spends half his screentime high and giggling at an old stag flick. Is this fun for us? The Final Chapter is utterly predictable in its choice of victims; you can rest assured that Michael Myers--er, Jason Voorhees--will show up out of nowhere to kill just about anyone but the leads.
Since we're on the subject of killing, let me ask a few questions. As the Scream people have told us, part of a sequel's mission is to up the body count and the flow of blood from bodies. "Carnage candy," I believe was the phrase. So why was it handled so badly here? Okay, for starters, of all the teens in the woods, the sexpot gets it first. Big surprise. Secondly, if the filmmakers wanted to be gross, how in the world could they kill someone in a hospital chemical storage room and somehow the idea of "acid" never enters their minds? Moving on, where'd Jason get the harpoon with which he killed one of our intrepid campers? My wife was of the opinion that he picked it up at the serial killer store, and as this movie was made before the age of the internet, I'm apt to agree. Nowadays, Jason could probably just pick up his shit on eBay.
