One of the best games ever made for the Nintendo Entertainment System, this game is the most literal example of "action/adventure" I've ever played; it's a nearly perfect combination of the two genres. Atmospheric and supremely involving, Simon's Quest is an action game on the surface, fitting nicely into the framework of the Castlevania series. However, at its heart, Quest is a grand adventure, one in which patient search and logical movement are rewarded by greater challenges and more interesting gameplay. The interaction between Simon and townspeople is simplistic yet interesting, and the character the programmers brought to each environment--rendered in shadings, not in stark contrasts--is nearly unmatched in the pantheon of gaming. Sequel to Castlevania (NES). Followed by Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES) and Super Castlevania IV (SNES). Other games in the series were produced for the Nintendo 64, Game Boy, and other game systems.
