A classy supernatural mystery, characterized by thoroughly observant writing and good performances, especially from the perenially underappreciated and underused Aidan Quinn. Like the best works of cinematic fiction, Haunted requires more than one viewing to catch all of its intricities of plot, character, and directing, and also like the best films, even after multiple viewings, Haunted leaves room for further thought and interpretation. Haunted also possesses an atmosphere that is thick and yet restrained; the film is wistful and sad at times, yet also scary in a nicely creepy and slow-burning fashion. All of this leads to a nicely executed twist ending and a powerful affirmation of the connection between the living and the dead; a wonderful cap to an interesting and accomplished film
