The actors in Haunted Summer are the film's saving grace, as they lend depth to their roles that the characters might otherwise have lacked. That's the problem with a story such as this; if you're writing a work about several literary giants, you damn well better make them interesting. The problem is, though Haunted Summer has the characters talk about their philosophies, we never get to know them as people. By the end, the film has degraded to a level just above that of a soap opera, but it has moments along the way which are captivating. (1999/Jan 24, 2002) | ||||||
Based on Anne Edwards's novel, which was in turn based true events. That summer was also made by Ken Russell into his film Gothic.
