Jack Witzig	Atmosphere Gore Humor Scares Tension This movie isn't bad--that is, it doesn't have the stink that some films give off. What it is is really messy. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but it seems as though there wasn't enough exposition in the movie. It's more like the film has several concurrent storylines instead of a coherent path with several subplots. I liked the (sorta) subtle linking of the Jonestown cult to a Heart of Darkness-like narratrive, but, again, it's a path that is sorely underexplored. (Sep 27, 1999)
