The second Phantasm film is noticably darker than the first one, and that is to the benefit of this film's atmosphere and mood. Unfortunately, the same darkening of atmosphere also makes this film less fun than its predecessor. The emphasis in Phantasm II is on action (I love the quadruple-barrel shotgun). For all its seeming movement, this film still strangely goes nowhere, though it's not, without enough creative touches to hold a viewer's interest. Oh, and by the way--the is a dream or isn't it? ending isn't cute anymore. (Jan 19, 2000) | ||||||
