My film professor in college said this was one of the most original films he'd seen in a long time, and I agree. It is a directing and acting tour de force, and a film to which "engrossing" would be a mild adjective. The idea that mathematics holds the key to life and everything in it is as interesting as the details of such a proclamation are beyond most of us. However, the film is smart enough to realize that discovering meaning isn't everything, while at the same time refusing to fall into cliche. So why is it here? Well, there are just enough scary scenes and religious subplots (actually, the whole film is kind of hyperactively creepy) to slip it into this site. (Feb 8, 1999/Jan 20, 2000) | ||||||
The actual title for this movie is the mathematical symbol for Pi.
