Something monstrous is picking New Yorkers up off skyscraper rooftops, and carrying them, mutilated and bloodied, off. Only one person knows what the creature is and where it's hiding--and he's demanding a high price before sharing the knowledge.

This is one of the great, fun monster films--the cornball special effects and weird situations just make the film endearing, not trying. Q is also one of the best-made monster films, to my mind; Larry Cohen's directing captures the feel of the city well, certainly better than his not-quite-satisfying God Told Me To. David Carradine (in an easily likable performance), Richard Roundtree, and the rest of the primary cast are aware of the material's limitations but don't condescend to the audience, and Michael Moriarty does all of them one step better by giving a nicely layered performance. Plenty of fun. (Nov 10, 1999) | ||||||
According to a person on Amazon.com, the theatrical and most television versions of Q include a message at the end of the film that reveals what happens to Michael Moriarty's character. Evidently the DVD, VHS, and Showtime television versions do not include this message.
