By telling the movie in flashbacks and by including a twist ending, Return to Horror High tried to separate itself from the mass of eighties slasher films. Unfortunately, it doesn't stray far. Horror High really has no idea whether it wants to be funny or serious, and neither it does well, alternating humor in bad taste with nasty, gratuitous violence. And neither "funny" nor "serious" seem to cover a weird sex scene in which some concurrent welding appears to be considered a quasi-erotic event. The movie has potential victims instead of characters spouting dialogue that at times makes little sense given the situation they're in. George Clooney fans may want to watch it for his appearance, but they'll get off easy--he exits, stage left, about ten minutes into the movie.
