![]() I like weird films. I think any horror fan has to, at least to a point. By some people's definition, just liking a genre that is intended largely to frighten and horrify its audience is unusual, to say the least. There are some films, though, that go so far out of their way to be strange that they have trouble sticking to any sort of coherent narrative, yet don't provide the audience anything else to latch on to. Rough Magic is such a film; it's enjoyable, it's well acted, but it's really, well, fuckin' weird, you know? It starts out well, a nice blend of intrigue, comedy, and maybe a little magic, but about halfway through, one of the actors lays an egg (and I mean that in a literal sense), and so does the film. I'm sure it's all intended in good fun, but the last hour of Rough Magic is far too scattershot for me, at least, to get a hold on. | ||||||
