This movie has been referred to by some--even many--critics as a masterwork--a psychological thriller for the ages. Me, I just don't see it. I couldn't connect with any of the people in this film; they all seem bored and disinterested. As a direct result, I was bored and disinterested as well. The script features some original ideas about obsession and the nature of the criminal mind, but leaps in time and ineffective acting bog it down. One thing I did like, though, was the ending: short and brutal. (Sep 1999) | ||||||
Remade in America 1993 by the same director, George Sluizer, under the title The Vanishing (also the American title of this, the original film).
