Director Rusty Lemorande turns the Screw up a couple of notches by supercharging some of the supernatural occurannces in this film, and as a result events feel too rushed and the haunting blatant. Patsy Kensit is actually quite good as the governess, and the sets are interesting as well, but the whole affair is overstated. Though perhaps my opinion of this film has suffered by subconscious comparison with The Innocents, the nearly perfect 1961 adaptation of The Turn of the Screw.
